Exercise Science/Athletic Training

Four majors are offered under the umbrella of:Exercise Science
- Health and Physical Education
- Sports Management
- Athletic Training
Exercise Science plays a vital role in the development of all students. The discipline is rooted in the premise that human beings are created in the image of God and that, for the Christian, the body is the very residence of the Holy Spirit.
The Exercise Science department helps prepare students for careers in education, community recreation, coaching, sports medicine, and sports management. The major also produces the prerequisites for graduate study in a variety of related fields such as kinesiology, pedagogy, athletic administration, sport management and physical therapy.
The department cooperates in certifying teachers in PreK-12 physical education and health. Graduates of the Sterling College education program are certified to teach elementary, junior high or high school classes in physical education and/or health.
The CAATE accredited athletic training program provides students interested in the field of athletic training and sports medicine the opportunity to gain real world clinical experience. Areas of study include: injury prevention, first aid, rehabilitation, injury assessment, general medical concerns, modalities and several other topics. For more information [see the Programs page]
The Exercise Science Department also serves the entire student body through the general education program which emphasizes the development of strategies, attitudes and behaviors for wholesome and meaningful fitness and health that will continue throughout life.
